Chuck Hanson, the owner of Iowa Sprinkler Systems & Snowbusters,
started his own business in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1978 plowing snow in the winters after a
long career in the car business selling Chevrolets - where he followed in his father's and
grandfather's footsteps as one of the youngest salesmen in the United States. Chuck
was introduced to the world of irrigation while playing in a golf outing with his car
dealers whom he called on for his job while living in Omaha, Nebraska.
Due to the economic growth in the construction business for both commercial &
residential dwellings in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he returned in the late 80's to open Iowa
Sprinkler Systems along with Snowbusters as a full service irrigation company dedicated to
installing Toro Irrigation Systems exclusively. Our company is proud to be
recognized as Cedar Rapids' only Certified Toro irrigation contractor.
To have a first class company we knew we needed the best technicians & employees
possible. In the spring of 1989 Greg Glessner, who had graduated from Washington
High School (as did Chuck) returned from living in Naples, Florida to become the service
manager and foreman for this newly formed business venture. Greg had worked in the
alarm business for Kelly Security and in the landscaping & irrigation business since
graduation day. Greg is a very conscientious person in doing things Right the first
time and installing the highest quality parts along with the best possible design for your
property. He places the heads so they water your yard - not your sidewalks.
It's more difficult to install it our way, but it's the right & only way.
In the 90's we added another foreman. Jim Woods has an extensive background in
agriculture, sodding, grading, landscaping & operating all kinds of machinery.
Woody, as we call him now, assists Greg in designing and installing Toro
irrigation systems in the summer. After our winterizations are complete in the fall
these two spend the winter months plowing snow. This year we are either installing
concrete at our new log building by the Lighthouse Supper Club on Mt. Vernon Road or
getting our equipment serviced, painted and ready for spring start-ups &
installations.
Justin Speed, our newest acquisition, is now working with these guys in assisting
winterizations, spring start-up, testing of back/flows and new installations.
Justin, along with our seasonal employees returning from college, works hard at letting
our customers know that their yard is the most important place where we can stand apart
from the competition. This is accomplished by either installing the highest quality
of sod or installing a system in an existing yard with minimal damage.
